Looking like something pulled right out of Wall-E, there’s a spherical object floating around the International Space Station. This object is Int-Ball, a camera drone that explores the ISS autonomously or via remote control from earth. Developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) the first videos of it in action have now been released. Int-Ball’s objective is to help alleviate some of the work done by the crew. JAXA estimates that the onboard crew spend about 10% of their working hours with a camera in hand....

There is always some kind of curiosity about what your apartment neighbours are getting up to. Are they really playing skittles in their hallway at midnight and does the girl upstairs really wear 10-inch heeled wooden clogs as she dances across the bedroom at 3:47 am? One creative media and photography duo took that curiosity a step further and created a huge Rear Window-esque set and composite large format image based on what goes on behind each of the windows of an apartment....

Modern cameras allow photographers to remove and change the lens fast, using only one hand. Unfortunately, it also makes it easier for thieves to steal the lenses directly off the camera. This is why photographer Rutger Geerling created Mark’s Lens Safe. It’s an accessory that protects the release button of your camera, making it impossible to remove the lens with one hand. He created it as an open source design for 3D printers, so everyone can download and print it for their camera....

It’s difficult to compete with timelapses like this. NASA gets a viewpoint from which the vast majority of the world will never be able to shoot. While we may not be able to shoot it ourselves, though, thankfully NASA do make much of their content available for free. For us to use, for our own projects.
