It’s that time again. Insta360’s announced another camera. This time it’s the Insta360 X3; the successor to the Insta360 ONE X2 (review here) – although they’ve dropped the “ONE” bit from the naming system now. But how does it compare to its predecessor? What’s different? What’s new? Is it really any better? I’ve had the opportunity to test one for the last couple of weeks and in some ways, it’s definitely an improvement over the ONE X2....

If you regularly speak to camera, teleprompters can be absolute lifesavers. You don’t need to remember scripts, or keep glancing off-camera at a printed sheet or a computer monitor telling you what you’re supposed to say next, it’s all just right up there on the screen, right in front of your face while your eyes remain pointed towards the camera. But they can get very expensive. The mPrompter, currently running on Kickstarter, hopes to fix all that with a low budget option that works with everything from a phone for smartphone vloggers all the way up to high-end cinema cameras....

Adobe After Effects hasn’t seen a big update in a little while, and it seemed to have been skipped over during last month’s big update – although, even if it had, the new app icons would’ve still probably stolen the show. But a little teaser was posted about an upcoming feature – the AI-powered Roro Brush 2.0. The new tool is now available in the latest public beta of After Effects, and Jordy and the team at Cinecom took it for a spin....

Blind Spot Gear’s Power Junkie has become an extremely popular piece of kit. Wandering around the halls of NAB and IBC, I saw them powering gear on many stands, and I’ve seen a lot of filmmakers using them to power their gear. But now, Blind Spot Gear has kicked things up a few notches with their new Power Cage & Bracket. As with the Power Junkie, Blind Spot Gear is launching the new device via Kickstarter, with pledges starting at only £30 ($38) for the bracket, £89 ($113) for the cage, and £99 ($126) for both....

The Light L16 is a unique oddity amongst cameras. If you’ve never heard of it before, it uses an array of 16 cameras and lenses to create “DSLR quality in the palm of your hand”. Whether that claim is true or not remains to be seen. But see we will, and quite soon now. First announced in October 2015, Light L16 will enter into its Expanded Beta phase in May, with pre-orders starting to be shipped in July....
