Halloween is just around the corner, so you may want to make some scary photos or videos for the occasion. Jordy Vandeput of Cinecom.net shows you five lighting setups inspired by famous horror movies and series, and you can recreate them all using a single light source. The guys from Cinecom used Aputure 120D to create all five lighting setups. It’s not often I get to shoot very simple, clean white light shots, but in a recent shoot the model asked if she could get some updated ‘Polaroids’. For those of you not familiar with the term when used in reference to a model shoot, it’s actually not the now obsolete and ludicrously expensive single-shot film, but a request for very basic portraits of the model for their agency. This ‘Polaroid’ term is a relic from the analogue film days and it essentially now means shots that are un-retouched and with the model wearing very little makeup....

Photographing splashing liquids is great fun. There’s all kinds of things you can do with it. Moving the lighting around, using coloured gels, or swapping over to a completely different liquid altogether. Often, though, the simplest place to start is with one of the most abundant substances on the planet, and that’s water. That’s the liquid which Russia based commercial photographer Andrew Mikhaylov uses in this video. Andrew goes through the whole process of shooting and post processing water splashes....

The Hubble Space Telescope has recently captured a new photo of Jupiter, showing its trademark Great Red Spot. NASA has shared the image which shows the gas giant in a more intense color palette and in all its glory, and it could be a step towards a better understanding of Jupiter, but also other planets.
