You may know Mike Olbinski by his stunning work in creating storm timelapse. He recently presented his latest work, appropriately titled Pursuit. This time, nature wasn’t on his side. It was difficult to catch the storms and shoot them for the film, despite all the effort. So he traveled 28,000 miles across the USA, pursuing the most spectacular and awe-inspiring storms, and not giving up. And he did it – he created another fantastic timelapse video that shows the overwhelming power of nature....

You know the saying “they don’t make them like they used to”? Apparently, Meyer Optik wants to make them exactly like they used to. And by them, I mean lenses. After resurrecting the Trioplan f2.9/50 and the Trioplan f2.8/100 Meyer Optik are now bringing a new series of lenses to life, starting with the Primoplan 58 f1.9. All via Kickstarter. Meyer Optik’s two previous kickstarters raised about a million dollars and they were both for lenses from the Trioplan series....

Teasing us with specs always seems to get us a little excited, especially when it comes to something new and different. Sure, smartphones aren’t exactly new, but the RED Hyrdrogen One sure appears to be. The world’s first phone with a holographic display that doesn’t require any kind of glasses. Now RED have let out a few more specs on the phone, as well as an approximate shipping date. A recent post on the RED User forum lets out a few more details about the RED Hydrogen One and some indication how it stacks up to other phones currently available....

Samyang has officially announced the new Samyang AF 24mm F1.8 FE lens for Sony E mount full-frame mirrorless. It’s the latest addition to their “Tiny Series” lens lineup and as the name suggests, it offers a 24mm field of view with a wide f/1.8 aperture. It weights only 230g and measures only 71mm from front to back, but this is an autofocus lens, not manual. The lens features a new “Custom Mode” with an LED indicator designed for photography....

Last year I had written an article about why I don’t shoot at conventions. A lot of it was for logistical reasons (not enough space, the time pressure, no guarantee that the spot you wanted to use won’t be taken up by others when you want to shoot, etc). But some of it was for creative reasons. The primary one being that when you have all of these factors that are forcing how exactly you have to shoot it doesn’t leave a lot of leeway for creative interpretation....
