NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope brings us a pretty incredible and rare “blast from the past.” In a recent photo, the telescope captured three different moments in a supernova explosion that happened more than 11 billion years ago. In “universe years,” that’s merely childhood, which is certainly incredible. However, Hubble’s snap is special for something else too: shooting a supernova as it happens isn’t exactly an everyday sight. To take this shot, Hubble relied on a phenomenon called gravitational lensing....

Backpacks are a tough sell for me. I think that over the course of ten years in the game, I’ve accumulated more bags than a shopaholic. Everything from travel bags, to slings, to mini bags, TSA Approved bags, the whole nine yards… But there is one bag I have been waiting a while to switch, my drone bag. I just have not found the perfect drone bag yet. Even with how small drones are getting, they, along with all their accessories need space and security, two things that regular backpacks, are hard to come by....

Every year, on the cusp of true, Rocky Mountain summer, I travel to the high country to photograph butterflies. For a brief couple of weeks, during the height of the alpine meadow bloom, when lupine and mallows turn acres of open space to blue and pink, Montana’s butterflies make the most of their short season. This year, I test drove Nikon’s flagship dx camera, the D500. I ran it with Nikon’s 300mm f4 PF VR and the TC-14E III, giving me a whopping 630mm of reach, hoping to bring these colorful insects up close and personal and preserve more depth of field than when shooting with my 200mm Micro Nikkor, my usually choice for butterflies....

The FAA has declared Super Bowl LVI (56) taking place on Sunday 13th February, a “No Drone Zone” and announced that there is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood California beginning at 2:30pm local time (Pacific) and ending at 8:30pm. The TFR means that you’re not allowed to fly within a 30-nautical-mile radius of the stadium horizontally to an altitude of 18,000 feet (~3.4 miles). Additionally, A further flight restriction prohibits drones from being flown within one-nautical-mile of the stadium from 10am on the 13th until the above TFR kicks in, up to an altitude of 3,000 feet....

DSLRs & mirrorless camera internal microphones are pretty much useless. They also have notoriously bad preamps when using external microhpones. No matter how good a microphone you plug into it, when you bump up the record level on your camera, you add noise. Lots of it.
