“Everyone’s a photographer nowadays.” How many times have you heard this phrase? This video from Erik Wahlstrom addresses it, and deals with one question I’ve been thinking a lot – in this era when photography’s so available, what makes a photographer? If “everyone is a photographer,” is anyone? This question has been on my mind a lot, and I never came up with a straightforward answer. I’m sure I’m a person some photographers would scoff at and say the phrase above....

There are several ways Instagram fights online bullying: it either uses AI to recognize it, mercilessly bans bullies forever, or lets you be in control. You can block people (and all their accounts) on your own, choose “trigger words” that just can’t land in your comment section, delete nasty comments in bulk, or shadowban bullies. But the latest Instagram feature is quite an unordinary way of treating jerks who are about to hurl insults at you....

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard of Mahsa Amini protests in Iran. They started when the country’s morality police arrested the young woman for allegedly violating the country’s hijab laws. She later died in custody, supposedly from being severely beaten. The protests have already had many terrible consequences for the people of Iran, and now comes another one. Iranian government agency indicated that the country would use facial recognition to target and identify women who “fail to observe hijab laws,” among other things....

I filmed nonstop for five days and created “We are Midburn”. The video ended up getting featured multiple big websites and news outlets, including the official Burning Man newsletter. Creating the video was quite the journey, but it also required me to extensively film non-stop during the entire event. So I pretty much experienced everything through a dusty camera lens. When it was time to get ready for Midburn 2017, I decided I’ll hold off the video this year....
