The 1990s brought a real revolution in digital technology. Considering that this era brought us digital cameras, broader use of PCs and Internet, we can say that it was revolutionary for photographers, too. And this revolution wouldn’t be complete without the most famous editing tool – Photoshop. In this demo, one of the inventors of this software, John Knoll, demonstrates what the program was like at its very beginning. Now that the technology is so advanced, it’s interesting to take a peek at Photoshop’s early days....

Building your own motorised camera gimbal or slider seem to be the in thing at the moment. In fact, I built one myself recently (that’s for another post, though). This one, though, from Michael Klements at The DIY Life is pretty cool and incorporates a slider with a motorised pan axis so that it can track a subject as it moves from one end of the rail to the other. It’s a total DIY project with a bunch of off-the-shelf parts and 3D printed components that Michael has designed himself....

There’s no doubt that there is noticeable gender inequality and lots of stereotypes in the photography and film industry. In her TED Talk from 2018, Jill Greenberg revealed some shocking data showing just how much more content had been created by male photographers and filmmakers. But this year’s The Photography Show and The Video Show plan to give women the space that they deserve. They have started the Women Who Photo & Film (WWP&F) campaign, which includes 21 female ambassadors from the fields of photography and filmmaking....

You have to be pretty lucky to capture the northern lights in the UK. But how lucky do you have to be to take a nap and wake up to images of aurora borealis on your camera? Believe it or not, this is exactly what happened to Chris Lowther from the UK. Chris set everything up to take some photos of star trails during the night. He set a timer and took a nap, considering that it was late at night....
