Photographer rights are always a bit of a hot topic, and often brings out extreme points of view from all sides. There’s the law, there’s common sense & decency, and then there’s just outright stupidity. The world over, the rights of photographers do seem to be becoming more common knowledge amongst non-photographers, but Tim Berry of Practical Photography Magazine wanted to see just what would happen while doing a little architectural photography out on the streets....

Facial recognition technology has been causing quite a stir for a while now. While some are paranoid about it, others find it to be useful, life changing even. Well, now there’s a new website to be either paranoid or thrilled about. PimEyes allows you to upload just one photo of a person, and it will analyze the internet to see where else this person’s photos have been published. PimEyes is Polish facial recognition website, it’s simple to use, and it’s free for everyone....

Profoto has now officially updated its “World’s Smallest Studio Light” (speedlight) from the A1X to the new Profoto A10. It’s essentially the same speedlight as the Profoto A1X, except that this one now has Bluetooth. So that you can… well, you can use it with your iPhone and Profoto’s recently released AirX Bluetooth protocols. Other than that, the new Profoto A10 seems essentially identical to its predecessor and at the same $1,095 price, too....

Smartphone cameras are getting better and better, offering a range of features we could only dream of ten years ago. But despite high functionality and advanced features, one “problem” still persists: the aesthetics. The lenses are still relatively thick, creating s-called “camera bumps.” But scientists from the University of Utah have developed a new type of optical lens to solve this problem. This new type of lens is a thousand times thinner than a regular lens, and a hundred times lighter....

TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube; and their parent companies are facing yet another lawsuit over mental health issues in children. This time, it comes from Seattle’s public school district, claiming that apps have had a major role in the “youth mental health crisis.” The district accuses social media platforms of causing a variety of mental health and behavioral issues in children and being “exploitive and manipulative.” According to the lawsuit, all these platforms are deliberately manipulating and exploiting users, targeting particularly the youngest ones among them....
