Last month, there was word floating around that Canon was about to announce updates to their popular 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and 70-200mm f/4L IS lenses. Well, Canon has now officially announced those updates. The two new lenses are, not surprisingly, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III and 70-200mm f/4L IS II. They’re not that different from their predecessors on-paper. In fact, the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III looks almost identical to the II except that it has 9 diaphragm blades instead of 8, and it weighs a few grams less....

Technically, I suppose, it’s two curved sensors. But, one of them can actually be bent and have the curve adjusted at will. At least, that’s how it seems if I’m reading this right. The reasons for these curved sensors seem to cite primarily technical and practical benefits of a curved sensor. One that can be bent at the user’s behest, though, opens up a whole host of potentially cool and interesting creative options for the future of photography....

In an interview with Mynavi News, Canon executive Kengo Iezuka says that their recently released 600mm f/11 and 800mm f/11 lenses would’ve been impossible to produce for DSLRs. They had planned to attempt these for DLSRs, but due to AF limitations, it couldn’t be done. Their creation only became possible due to the design and capabilities of their new RF mount mirrorless cameras. Mr Iezuka is one of the executives responsible for the planning of lenses at Canon and also hinted that more such lenses might be on the way, depending on the success of these two....

Last week, it was reported that the high-resolution 50-megapixel Canon EOS 5DS and 5DSR DSLRs had ceased production. While Canon still hasn’t confirmed this, and you can still currently buy one, it makes a lot of sense to kill off this camera now, with 40+ megapixels starting to become more common with the likes of the Nikon D850 & Z7 and Sony A7R IV.
