There are macro images, and then there are extreme macro images. Photographer Marco Retana from Costa Rica specialises in macro images of insects that are indeed pretty extreme in the close-up department. Retana manages to capture such incredible detail, particularly in the eyes of his subjects that DIYP had to catch up with him and find out how he shoots these images. One of the things that Marco enjoys about such extreme macro photography is that you can capture details that you can’t even perceive with the human eye....

So cameras have been attached to the backs of wild dolphins recently in the name of science. Well these guys thought it would be interesting to try attaching a GoPro to the back of a large fish in the name of, well, I’m not sure what. Certainly not science anyway. For anybody who shoots outside of a set or the studio, location scouting is almost a necessity. Whether you’re shooting video or stills, if you have a specific look in mind for the final result, you need to have a suitable location. Sure, you can skip the whole planning thing, and just drive around while shooting in the hopes that you’ll eventually find a spot. For some run & gun styles of shooting that might actually work, but for a lot of things, it doesn’t....

It’s been a while since we’ve featured work from hyperlapse filmmaker Kirill Neiezhmakov, but when I saw his recent film, Magical Places in Lisbon, I just had to share it here on DIYP. It’s a fantastic mix of hyperlapse, traditional timelapse, as well as realtime footage, which tells a fantastic story. It’s quite different from the usual hyperlapse films we see these days and the mixture of footage at different speeds works really well....
