Released in 2014, the DJI Ronin pretty much revolutionised the video production industry. A handheld motorised gimbal for creating smooth and seamless free camera moves with big cameras. Or, mount it to a drone, and shoot from the air with something better than an action camera. Now, DJI have announced it successor, the Ronin 2. It features greater compatibility with other stabilisation systems, more refined setup and balancing, and an even bigger payload capacity....

In another instance of drone operator stupidity, 38 year old Stephanie Creignou was seriously injured when a 2.8lb (1.3kg) drone dropped from about 33ft (10m) in the air straight into her head with a velocity of around 25mph (11m/s) during the Challenge 5km Arc-en-Ciel race in Beloeil, Canada. TVA reports that the operator of the drone, Rosaire Turcotte, had been previously warned about his reckless flying, flew much closer to the crowd than was allowed, and didn’t have the required permits to fly his DJI Phantom 3 at the event in the first place....

As I believe all of you have noticed, Facebook was down for quite a lot of time yesterday. The outage was global, and Facebook took Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp down with it. The company acknowledged the issue, but didn’t give us the reason behind it. Now, after everything’s back to normal, Facebook has finally revealed what caused one of the worst outages in its history. When the services were down, the whole world went crazy over it....

After a rather recent public controversy over censorship rules, Facebook are revisiting their playbook when it comes to newsworthy images. Those posting images like the one at the top of this post by photography Nick Ut, were warned to remove or pixelate them to comply with Facebook’s guidelines. When even Norwegian Prime Minister, Erna Solberg reposted the photo to shot her support, her post was removed, too. The images and associated posts have since been reinstated....
