Smartphone video often seems to get neglected. Even here on DIYP. We post a bit about smartphone photography, but little about shooting video with a phone. And it’s something many of us do, even if just for social media. Or, we shoot clips we shoot to edit on the computer alongside other footage. I’ve even used my own iPhone with a Zhiyun Smooth-C gimbal to shoot b-roll for interviews and reviews....
Keeping cables tangle-free can be a nightmare. As photographers we may have quite an array of cables. Long trigger release cables, flash head cables, USB extensions for shooting tethered, for example. If you shoot video as well, you might have to deal with XLR and other cables, too. And when it comes to cables, there’s nothing worse than turning up to shoot with a tangled mess. Kinked and tangled cords don’t just make life difficult for you, though....
An 83 megapixel image of the sun has been captured by the Solar Obiter in a joint project by the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA. The images were taken in March when the when the spacecraft was crossing directly between the Earth and Sun and show unprecedented detail. The image was taken by the Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI) and is the highest resolution image ever taken of the Sun’s full disc and outer atmosphere, the corona....

The Tokyo International Foto Awards has announced its 2020 contest winners and finalists. The contest honors both professional and non-professional photographers, but they all equally contributed to the wonderful selection of images. They reflect the world around us from all of its angles: from nature’s divine beauty to its terrifying disasters. And since the photos were taken over 2020, there’s an extra bit of madness to it all. The 2020 contest received entries from more than 100 countries around the world....
