“Watch the Birdie” – that’s what my parents told me, to make sure I look into the camera before they took a photo of me. I guess lots of you guys remember this saying. With the renovation of a 140-year-old historic brass birdie, I show you the origin of this phrase. As this website reports, the earliest sightings of this kind of photographic “tool” was found back in 1879. An article by CW Davis was published in an issue of “Photographic News” referring to a mechanical bird that chirps when you operate pneumatic bellows....

It was only a few days ago when we reported that Instagram might be evolving into Twitter with its new Notes feature. Well, the launch happened much sooner than expected – and Notes are already officially out. I spotted the new feature when I opened Instagram today, and then saw the announcement on the platform’s Twitter account. Am I the only one feeling the irony here? Anyhow, I wanted to share with you what it looks like and what you can expect....

If scrolling through a plain old Instagram feed isn’t exciting enough for you, a new free online app called Instamuseum lets you turn it into a virtual museum. To create your gallery, you’ll need an account on Sketchfab, but that is also free. To let people view them, you need simply to embed them into your website. Utilising Blender 3D to generate dynamic 3D models, and then uploading them to Sketchfab, Instamuseum holds a lot of potential for future development....

We all have seen some very encouraging news recently coming from major film companies bringing back or releasing new film stocks. Some promising accessories, like the “Lab-Box Film Tank”, have also emerged and it seems that nothing can stop the return of film at the front stage. The present and near future seem very promising for film photographers and you can read everywhere that film is back…but aren’t we celebrating a bit too fast?...

Years ago I had a Flickr account – I didn’t use it much and it languished in oblivion until at some point Flickr deleted it. I didn’t really give it a second though – I kind of thought of Flickr as a place newbies post snapshots of flowers and sunsets. All the cool photographers used 500px. Flickr is a dead social media platform anyway right? However, I recently needed a platform where I could keep track of all my published photography, so I opened a new Flickr account – and hello, I discovered that Flickr is actually an amazing tool for your photography business (if you treat it like a tool, not a social media platform)....
