3D cameras have fascinated me for years. When I was a kid, my parents had one of those View-Masters. Actually, they had hundreds of them (they owned a bunch of toy shops) but they gave one to me and I’d sit and stare through its binocular viewfinder for hours looking at all the different reels. 3D viewing technology’s come a long way since then, but the fascination never faded. I have a couple of small all-in-one 3D cameras, like the Weeview SID (review here) and Insta360 EVO....

I’m going to preface this by saying that this isn’t a lens review article, there are many photographers better suited for this topic, so if you’re after refraction index comparisons and chromatic aberration charts this article probably isn’t for you. This article is however my personal thoughts on three Nikon zoom lenses and their resulting images but also a broader look at how we as photographers covet lenses and other photographic gear....

With light painting becoming as popular as it has, it’s no surprise that we’re starting to see more and more products popping up to aid in its creation. From custom tubes to finished products like the Pixelstick, there’s a lot of choices out there. But there’s still room for more, apparently. The latest one being UniColor. The UniColor looks similar to Pixelstick’s new Colorspike, in that it houses colour changing RGB LEDs....

Artificial intelligence is already used in cameras for various purposes, but Resolve and Intel have teamed up and created an AI-based camera that is used for a good cause. Their TrailGuard is a camera that helps to protect endangered species in Africa. It’s able to detect, stop, and arrest poachers before it’s too late. Although technology is already in use to protect the animals from poachers, there are some drawbacks to the existing systems....

We’re quite lucky in the photo and video industries that there aren’t many weird or non-standard batteries, for the most part. Sure, some companies do seem to update their battery design every time they release a new product – which gets very frustrating every time you upgrade and need to buy 3-4 more spares – but for mirrorless cameras, field monitors, LED lights, etc. there aren’t many different ones. One of the most common types of batteries out there that many photographers and filmmakers will own are the Sony NP-F style batteries....
