I guess we all know the viral Grumpy Cat, the spirit animal of many of us (especially on Monday mornings). In 2015, a beverage company used Grumpy Cat’s name and image without a license, and the kitty’s owner Tabatha Bundesen decided to file a lawsuit. On Monday, the court ruled in her favor and she was awarded $710,001 in damages. As the Hollywood Reporter writes, after the viral success of her cat, Bundesen quit her job at Red Lobster and founded Grumpy Cat Limited....

In November last year, we shared a Kickstarter campaign for a battery many of us would found useful. The X-Tra battery offered longer shooting time with a smaller, lighter battery, and the campaign was funded in no time. However, Canon Rumors recently came to the conclusion that the campaign might have been a scam. Before the campaign ended, Canon Rumors was offered 20% of all sales driven to the project. They became suspicious when they reached out to Kickbooster, who reportedly said that they hadn’t got in touch with anyone from the project....

I’m a big fan of collaborative projects, both as a participant and as a mere observer. Iranian photographer Alireza Rostami has just finished a pretty epic one and he’s kindly shared the results with DIYP. His little film camera traveled 16,284 km (10,118 miles) between 27 photographers. The journey started in Tehran where it also ended when the last negative was shot. During its 11-month duration, the project has told a story of solidarity, trust, and collaboration between people, and it’s a story that brings back faith in humanity....

One commercial photographer I know who shot a lot of pet food advertisements used to joke that the animals in his studio were so well trained he could almost get the cats to go make him a coffee.
