For all photographers, August 19 is known as World Photography Day. Well, this calls for a celebration, right? On behalf of myself and DIYP team, I wish you a fantastic day and good light! And now, I’m curious to know – how are you gonna spend this day? Are you celebrating? I’ll give you a few suggestions what to do today and make your day special, inspiring and pleasant. And I’d like to hear your plans and suggestions, too.

Go out and shoot

Go out and shoot

Here’s an obvious one. Grab your camera and shoot away. You can go out for a walk alone and take some street shots, or go out with friends or family and take their photos. It’s Saturday, maybe you can even go out of town and take some landscape photos. Anyway, you get the gist – spend some time with your beloved camera.

Edit all those photos waiting for you

I’m that kind of person who spends workdays working, cooking, walking, and shooting, and there’s not much time left for editing. I usually have the photos wait for the post-processing for weeks. If you’re like that too – well, take some time and edit all those photos that have been waiting for you.

Treat yourself with some gear

You’ve been saving for a new camera for ages? Or maybe you just need something cheaper, like a lens hood, white balance card or some gels. Either way, I can’t imagine a better day to treat yourself with something photography related. You deserve it.

Try something new

If you mainly shoot people in studio – try shooting street photography today. Try a new editing technique in Photoshop, or even try colorization of black and white photos. You get my point – celebrate your day by learning new things and trying something you don’t usually do.

Make prints

Printing your photos and turning them into a tangible piece of art is something not many people do nowadays. But it’s a really rewarding feeling. There are a few reasons for printing your photos, and if you haven’t done it in a while – do it today.

Support fellow photographers

Today we celebrate the history of photography, its impact on the world, and all the artists who are devoted to it. So, today is the right day to buy prints from another photographer and support their work.

If there’s a photography exhibition in your city – go for a visit. You’ll get inspired and have a nice afternoon devoted to your favorite type of art.

I’ve had a very busy day today (with a busy evening to come), but I’ve figured out what I’m gonna do. I’m going to a friend’s birthday party, but with my camera. I’ll try doing some portraits and candid shots, none of which is my usual style. And what about you?
