Thylacine or Tasmanian tiger was declared extinct way back in 1936 so none of us have ever been able to see it live. But The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) has just released a video that gives a new life to this unusual animal. The colorized footage from 1933 shows not only just any Tasmanian tiger but also the last one of its kind. The NFSA released the video for National Threatened Species Day along with some more information about the species and the video itself....

NASA revealed the James Webb Space Telescope’s first photos yesterday, and the world is still under a great impression. The telescope was built on Hubble’s legacy and some objects shown in the first images had already been captured by Hubble. So, naturally, we want to compare them and see exactly how the two telescopes differ in power. Spoiler alert: they differ a lot. We have all been amazed by Hubble’s images for over thirty years now, but Webb is Hubble on steroids in terms of image quality....

I recently organised and executed a cover shoot for Uk alternative magazine Twisted Edge. It features the usual alternative lifestyle elements such as girls with tattoos, rock bands, movie reviews and various Uk alt photographers. Having read many alt magazines, I knew I wanted the images for this feature to stand out, and buck the raw, gritty aesthetic that has become synonomus with Uk alt photography. Lensbaby’s OMNI Creative Filter System was announced earlier this year for pre-order and is now shipping. It’s an interesting system offering some very unique creative options for both photographers and filmmakers. We stopped by the Lensbaby stand at PhotoPlus 2019 to see it in person and find out all about it. The OMNI filter system is essentially a ring to which you can attach crystals via a magnetic system. Putting crystals in front of a lens is nothing new, but the advantage of the OMNI system is that you’re able to place them more precisely and keep them held in a specific spot....

If there’s one thing we know about The Slow Mo Guys, it’s that they’re always chasing ever faster frame rates to capture things in even slower motion. If there’s another thing we know about Gav and Dan, it’s that they like blowing stuff up. And when they combine the two, it always results in some pretty insane footage, letting us see things in ways we never have before. You’ll be pleased to hear that this video is no exception as the boys add to their familiar array of Phantom cameras with a Shimadzu HPV-X camera that shoots up to a whopping five million frames per second – technically, it can shoot up to ten million but they only take it up to five – to capture shaped charges exploding....
