I was saddened to see this particular email show up in my inbox this morning. Online publication f11 Magazine is suspending its run, after only six years. F11 was created to have a focus on photography and the photographers who create it, rather than the gear. It was all about appreciating the work, and discovering the journey of those who make it. I’ve been reading f11 Magazine for about 5 years now, and it’s pretty much the only monthly publication I do read....

A couple of new cameras isn’t the only thing Panasonic announced today. Along with the official announcement for the Panasonic Lumix S1 and S1R full frame mirrorless cameras, comes three new Panasonic L mount lenses. There’s the Panasonic S PRO 50mm f/1.4, the Panasonic S PRO 70-200mm f/4 OIS and the Panasonic S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS. Panasonic reaffirms the alliance between Panasonic, Sigma and Leica, stating that it’s “a user-friendly solution that will allow photographers to ‘mix and match’ any of the three manufacturers’ […] cameras with any lens from each other’s product portfolios”....

An 8-year old girl Marian Scott was recently denied school photos because of red extensions in her hair. It made her feel singled out and left her in tears, crushing her self-esteem in an instant. When he heard this story, photographer Jermaine Horton felt like he needed to do something. So, he threw an epic professional photoshoot for Marian in an attempt to get her confidence back. According to WILX, Marian’s school Paragon Charter Academy denied her school photos because of the red hair....

Can you imagine embezzling over $400,000 of state money to buy camera gear so you can take photos for Instagram? As crazy as it sounds, this actually happened. A University of California professor reportedly spent $404,000 of state funds to buy himself cameras and lenses. No, he didn’t need them for science or teaching – he reportedly bought them to shoot photos for his Instagram and to sell prints on his website....
