Godox announced a 2400w system. Here are some thoughts. (No I don’t have one, I’m reacting to the available info). The scientists of Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Germany have developed a new algorithm. It enhances low-res images so that they miraculously become hi-res and sharp. It only needs a single low-resolution input, and it will increase its resolution while retaining the realistic textures and details. According to the paper, the existing algorithms don’t perform the resolution enhancement so well. They tend to produce images that are too smooth and lack realistic textures, so they look unnatural....

“Film is saved!” – Or at least that’s what it seems when you see the results of the Save Analog Cameras campaign. In a previous article, I talked about the initiative of Juho from Cameraventures who wanted to draw a map of the Analog scene worldwide. This is a little strange and surprising. Nikon appears to be making their own memory cards now. Or, at least, they’re rebranding somebody else’s if not making them themselves. A new listing has shown up on the Nikon website for a Nikon 120GB XQD card. It’s listed as coming at some point during September 2018. It’s a little bit odd, really, to see Nikon’s name on a memory card. It’s just not something we typically see, except with Sony – who were already making various memory cards for other devices before they even bought Minolta and got into photography....

The BBC’s Tokyo 2020 (yes, I know it’s 2021, but they kept the name) studio looked pretty real to casual observers watching the coverage of the recently-concluded Olympics. You’d turn on your TV and you’d think they were actually in a fancy rooftop studio in Tokyo providing their thoughts and commentary. But no. The BBC Sport team was actually in a comfy green-screen studio in Salford near Manchester, England. The on-screen magic was brought to life thanks to Unreal Engine....
