When Fuji released the X-Pro1 and X100S, they became instant hits. Relatively small cameras with amazing image quality. Many photographers added one to their kit as a lightweight alternative to a DSLR for personal use. Others completely replaced their DSLRs with the new Fuji offerings as their new main bodies. People loved them. A couple of months after the X-Pro1 launch, Leica announced their new M Monochrome black & white only digital rangefinder....

Ever since high speed sync was introduced to speedlights, I’ve seen questions about metering it. Up until now, it’s pretty much been impossible to judge with a handheld meter. You basically have to just go off your histogram. Now, that’s all changed. Originally announced at Photokina in September, Sekonic’s L-858D light meter is now getting into peoples hands. Being able to meter high speed sync should start to put an end to the debates over just how much power is lost once you go past your sync speed....

The general population seems to have got it through their head that texting while driving is a stupid idea. It seems, though, that when it comes to selfies, people quite gotten so smart yet. A recent study by the Auto Insurance Center says that at any given moment during daylight hours in the USA, around 660,000 people are using cellphones or other electronic devices wile driving. This covers talking, texting, or playing games....

“It was constant hustle for me the first three years (in business) full time.” I read this quote from a photographer-turned-business coach. It was advice in a Facebook group. I’m not certain the question that elicited this reply, but it doesn’t really matter. The statement stands alone. And if the response from this photographer-turned-business coach had been: “It’s been constant hustle since day one.” OR “I’ve never stopped hustling” OR “Girl, get some comfy shoes and stock up on wine, ‘cause the hustle never ends…” …then I would have never written this article....

Over the last few years, I’ve become a big fan of small pocket-sized LED lights. They used to not be as good as they are now, offering pretty limited functionality and they just didn’t produce great colour. But LED tech has come a long way since in a few short years, leading us to where we are today with products like the Digitalfoto Tree Frog. I have two DigitalFoto Tree Frog lights that I’ve been using to light my 3D printer for live streams and for shooting small product photos and b-roll....
