The online art gallery DeviantArt is expanding its DeviantArt Protect tool in a bid to help artists and photographers figure out if their work has been sold as NFTs without their knowledge. The software was added to DeviantArt last July 2021 and functions in a similar way to other image match detection programmes like Tin Eye or even Google reverse image search. The Protect software was originally intended to be just used within the site’s own interface and would allow users to see if someone had used their work to create derivative or overly similar artwork....

The researchers at Disney have developed artificial intelligence that makes actors appear younger or older in seconds. If this becomes a standard, it could make that terrible CGI obsolete and unnecessary. It will also make it much faster, easier, and cheaper to re-age someone. But also, is it a step closer to not needing human actors at all? Disney introduced the AI-based photorealistic digital re-aging in a recently published paper. Thanks to a bunch of prequels, sequels, and spin-offs of pretty much everything nowadays, it has become more common than ever to have significantly older or younger actors in some scenes....

Natural light is probably what most of us begin with when we are starting to get into portrait photography. It makes sense. The sun is free, it’s dependable (depending on where you live) and it’s just so easy! After a while of shooting with natural (or available) light, we then start to find it a little underwhelming, and that’s when we typically begin our forays into strobes or artificial lighting. But as we realise with more experience, shooting portraits with natural light isn’t necessarily easy or straightforward, and there are many things we can do to improve our shots....

There is something amiss with the photo above. I’m not talking about the missing teeth on the left – that’s the right photo. The problem is the photo on the right. Surely we have lost the plot when we start photo shopping an 8 year old’s gappy grin. Arriving home from work yesterday, my excitement at finally receiving the boys’ school photos was quickly replaced by bewilderment. As I looked at the photos of our eldest, I thought – “I didn’t realise he still had teeth when the photos were taken”....
