Today I’m developing a roll of Kodak Tri-X 400 shot at 6400 ISO. I’ve been wanting to try this little experience for a while now. Some films are known for handling push processing very well and Kodak TX400 is one of them. Lots of photographers I know are even shooting by default at 1600 ISO but I wanted to push its limits 2 stops further. Just when Pentax seemed like it might be starting to pick up, Nikkei Asian Review are reporting that Ricoh may be dropping the brand. There’s no doubt that smartphones are continuing to eat into camera sales, and Pentax has become a “money-losing” business. Nikkei say that Ricoh plan to “radically review” a production and manufacturing strategy targeting the Pentax and GR brands. One of the options includes withdrawing from the segment completely....

Whether stills or video, one of the items many photographers and filmmakers often need is remote control over their cameras. The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K already has one option in the form of a smartphone app, but now we have another option, the tiny Pocket Bluetooth Controller (PBC) from CDA-Tek. CDA-Tek also has a mobile app, offering remote control over the Pocket 4K from Android devices, although the feature set is a little different to the app we’ve previously featured here and it’s a little more expensive than that one, too....

I might get ratty when it comes to arbitrary rulings on whether or not a type of camera makes someone ‘professional’, but if the decision is ‘No photography’ then so be it. Institutions prohibit photography for a variety of reasons—from protecting their artefacts from light exposure to protecting copyright—but taking it up with the security guard won’t get you anywhere....
