With as many sensors as Nikon buys from companies like Sony, TowerJazz, Toshiba, etc. it’s easy to forget that Nikon can and does actually design their own imaging sensors, too. That’s exactly what they’ve done, though, announcing a new, slightly odd square format 4224 x 4224 pixel CMOS HDR sensor that they offers “the industry’s highest level of HDR”. While the idea of a square sensor of this resolution and frame rate sounds like it would be a lot of fun for things like Instagram and other square format social media, though, it seems this sensor might be destined more for industrial use....

I have to be honest here, I’m actually starting to get a little excited about the idea of a Nikon mirrorless camera. I know I probably shouldn’t. I know it’ll be lots of hype and when it finally arrives I’ll be disappointed. But, still, the more little bits of information about it come out, the closer I get to certain that I will want one. And this latest development just brings me that bit closer....

This could be the biggest indicator so far that Nikon are actually starting to take mirrorless seriously. Yes, they did mention recently that they plan to launch a mirrorless camera that can complete with medium-to-high end DSLRS. But talk is cheap. NiSi is expanding out into the world of photography lenses with the announcement of their first. It’s an ultra-wide-angle 15mm f/4 manual focus lens designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Not Panasonic ones, though. Although, it is also available for Fuji’s APS-C X mount system. The lens offers an aperture with 10 straight blades, to provide that “sunstar” look to light sources for use both during the day and at night. On a full-frame camera, the lens offers an extremely wide 112° field of view – making its true focal length closer to 14....

Despite the great global graphics cards shortage, NVIDIA has announced not one, but two new graphics cards. The NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti. Aimed towards both gamers and creatives, thanks to their studio-focused drivers to boost the performance of new AI features found in applications like Lightroom, Photoshop and DaVinci Resolve. The new Ti cards boost performance gains over their non-Ti counterparts with more CUDA cores and GDDR6X memory....
