National Geographic Under Fire For Posting Alleged Photo Manipulation Of The Milky Way

National Geographic is facing criticism after posting an article containing a manipulated photograph by photographer Beth Moon of the Botswana night sky. It shows Baobab trees silhouetted against the Milky Way. The criticism is over the fact that the Milky Way has been quite obviously manipulated, showing several cloned areas of the Milky Way. The article is titled “See the world’s oldest trees by starlight”, and was published on April 26th to the National Geographic website....

Neural Network Turns Your Pixelated Black And White Gameboy Photos Into Realistic Portraits

Neural networks, deep learning, artificial intelligence, whatever term you prefer seems to be a very hot topic lately. Every couple of weeks there seem to be new developments to show off what it can do. And it’s certainly an opinion that has a semblance of logic behind it, given that there are far more photos being taken by phones today than DSLR and mirrorless cameras combined. Yet the idea of shooting primarily on an iPhone doesn’t sit right with myself, and that of my clients who would sack me from the job if I had to shoot it on an iPhone!...

Photograph Anything You Want

I wanted to write you this letter on how to liberate yourself in photography— by photographing what interests you rather than what you think other people will be interested. It means to make your photography more personal, and to make your photos a reflection of who you are as an individual. Remember; photos are always self-portraits of yourself, not of your subjects. Often time, a lot of photographers ask me, “Eric— I don’t have any ideas for photo projects— how do I come up with good ideas?...
