The Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD for Sony E mount was rumoured yesterday to be announced today, and now that announcement has come. Tamron has today officially announced development of the new 17-28mm f/2.8 lens, along with two others destined for Nikon and Canon full frame DSLRs. The Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD prime lens and Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4 Di VC OSD zoom.

The Tanrom 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD is designed to be a lightweight and less expensive alternative to the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM for when you need a quick wide angle lens. Tamron says that it’s particularly suited to landscape, astrophotography and architectural shooting, but then goes on to say that it offers quick and near-silent autofocus, which aren’t really essential for those genres. So, I imagine it will suit other applications where you’ll want wide angles with an f/2.8 aperture, too.

There’s no word on price or exact availability yet, although it is expected to launch sometime in the middle of 2019.

As well as the new Sony E lens, Tamron hasn’t forgotten about those “dinosaur” DSLRs that many of us still shoot. They’ve also announced development of the Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD lens for Nikon F and Canon EF full frame DSLRs.

Another one for the full frame DSLRs, the Tamron 35-150mm f/2.8-4.0 is a variable aperture zoom containing both low dispersion glass and aspherical elements to help reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations.

As with the other two, it’s expected to come out mid-2019, but beyond that there’s no specific release date yet. And, no, there’s no price yet, either. All three lenses will be on display at CP+ in Japan, and WPPI in Las Vegas.
