The regional winners for the 65th World Press Photo Contest have been announced, and they cover four different categories: Singles, Stories, Long-Term Projects, and Open Format. This means dozens of striking images, and you can see them all below.

Each year, The World Press Photo Contest receives tens of thousands of submissions from every corner of the world. This year, the winners were chosen out of 64,823 photos and open format entries, including 4,066 photographers from 130 countries. The 2022 World Press Photo Contest works with six worldwide regions – Africa, Asia, Europe, North and Central America, South America, and Southeast Asia and Oceania.

“It is exhilarating to see the way in which the new regional contest set up is producing the changes that we were hoping for,” said Joumana El Zein Khoury, executive director of the World Press Photo Foundation. “Changes that we believe will offer different perspectives on, and a deeper connection to, photojournalism and documentary photography from all over the world.” Global winners of the World Press Photo Contest will be announced in April. But the regional winners deserve just as much attention, so take a look at their photos below and make sure to visit the contest’s website for more information.
